    Unhappy Lsnrctl Pb

    Hello,

I just finished installing Oracle 9i with the OUI, runInstaler. When I try to lauch a listener:
    -----
    LSNRCTL> start LISTENER
    Starting /home/oracle/OraHome2/bin/tnslsnr: please wait...

    TNS-12546: TNSermission denied
    TNS-12560: TNSrotocol adapter error
    TNS-00516: Permission denied
    Linux Error: 13: Permission denied

    LSNRCTL>
    ----
    ----
I reinstalled the Oracle 9i DB, and this is what I got, in the listener.log file:

    Error listening on: (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=IPC)(KEY=EXTPROC)))
    TNS-12542
    TNS-12560
    TNS-00512
Linux Error: 98 Address already in use
    -----
Any ideas what this is all about ? why it is not working ?

    Unhappy listener status

    Hello,

I invoke LSNRCTL, when I type status, I get the following twice:
    -----
    Connecting to (DESCRIPTION=(ADDRESS=(PROTOCOL=IPC)(KEY=EXTPROC)))
    TNS-12541: TNS:no listener
    TNS-12560: TNSrtocol adaptor error
    TNS-00511: No listener
    Linux Error: 111: Conneciton refused
    -----

Any ideas what this might be ? How can I solve this ?

    Listener Parameter File
    Listener Log File

Instance "PLSExtProc", status UNKNOWN, has 1 handler(s) for this service...

Believe me, that advice has just fallen on deaf ears. After spamming dbaclick, he's over here spamming this site with the same inane questions. "I've installed Oracle whatever on my Linux server (did I say it was Linux yet?), and the display on my monitor is dim. Should I try installing a patch?"

    Unhappy Comments

    Hello people,

I am a newbie with Oracle.
It might be true that I ask a lot of questions.
I have a lot of stuff to learn and read about that does not make sens to me at first.

I am reading the literature that was pointed out to me.
There is so much information to digest...........

I hope that by posting + the reading I can get to understand my system and difficulties to get me going.

I find it ironic that you would ban a person with such an interest in Oracle. Let me mention that some of the problems I am experiencing are very difficult for a beginner like me to crasp.

My posting and susequent replies have been a greath help to me so far, I wish I can count on your continued support.

    Regards,

    PT

    Unhappy Comments.

    Hello,

    Yes, I understand.
By the way, I found a greath source of information about the LSNRCTL utility at www.oracleutilities.com.

It talks about the utility, what it does and the commands it uses.
This is the kind of information I was craving for.

It can help me get along a little more.
I tought I would share that with everyone.

    PT

PS: I still have those Java Runtime Exceptions with the DBCA that I am trying to understand what are all about ? I can't find that in a manual !!!!
