deleted file size didn't update the available O.S. disk space
SOLARIS 8
ORACLE 8.1.6
I have this weird scenario,
I have drop a tablespace that is used by an RBS. I intend to recreate a bigger TABLESPACE for a bigger RBS.
After I drop the tablespace, I issue
the command in o.s.:
rm RBSbig01.dbf
the command was successful because it didn't feedback any error.
but to my surprise, the 500M size of that file didn't reflect the AVAILABLE size as i issue a
df -k
it was still the same before I remove the datafile.
Any experience of such kind guys, pls share, as again I am very much short of resource the only remaining file system that I can use is the one where ARCHiving resides?
Thanks in advance.

well I know in Tru64 or HP-UX it takes sometime to free the space at OS level however I am not aware of this behavious on Sun Solaris

thanks for your response PANDO,
If I can only restart the server itself to accomdodate my needs then I could have done it now, to confirm also your explanation.
But the server is in 24X7, so may have to wait for a little while and hoping that HP-UX shares the same behaviour.

you got it right PANDO,
I've waited for at least an hour and now the avail size of the disk space was updated. THANKS alot.

You can pull a 34' camper with a Honda Civic. That doesn't make it the smart thing to do.
