question on Oracle's behaviour after ora-00600

    Hello.

I encountered an ORA-00600 [17182] on a clients system (8.1.7 on W2K). Some kind of memory corruption was the cause (that's what metalink said about it).

Now, the system no longer accepts new connections (all result in ORA-12500). The system is occupying the 2 cpus to the max for a few hours now. Oracle is probably checking the integrity of the db. I've seen this before.
Strange thing is: all sqlplus sessions were disconnected, but dba studio is still logged into this db.

I want to learn more about this...

    My question:
    - is there a way to predict/calculate/lookup how long this action is going to take?
    - is there documentation available on this behaviour? (I already searched http://tahiti.oracle.com - i didn't find it)

    Any info is appreciated!

    Erik

What is the database suffering? Latch free waits? Trace files? Alert Log?
