In Oracle 9i, does Oracle require SGA memory on startup.

When you startup Oracle, and the shared_pool_size is 160m, the buffer_cache_size is 80m, and the log_buffer=512K. Does Oracle require 240m on startup. I remember in previous releases you could load the SGA on startup on Unix (can't remember the parameter). Or does Oracle only require the memory when it is needed? This is an 9i database.

You need more than 240 MB memory to startup oracle.

I believe that the behaviour is governed by the parameter prepage_sga, or something like that.

Yeah, with pre_page_sga, you may read the entire SGA into real memory at instance startup.
