I used to only specify service_name in the tnsnames.ora file (and it could be SID for 9i), but I noticed sometimes both instance_name and service_name are specified in the tnsnames.ora file, and many times they are different (while I thought they usually should be the same).

Any idea when this will happen? Thanks!!!
