Surviving a Database Disaster with RMAN Backups
Hi,
I read the new doc http://www.dbasupport.com./oracle/ora9i/rman.shtml
I got really surprised when the author says RMAN could not find his last archive logs : "[...] RMAN catalog did not understand archive logs that were created after we had run the RMAN backup. We had to do manual cataloging of all the archive logs [...]"
I well thought RMAN recorded the archive log as soon as the redolog got archived.
What do you people think ? have you faced that kind of problem before ?
Thanks to share your experience.

How would rman know about archived redo if it hasn't backed them up?

Thanks,to you both, I'll read the doc completely when I'll be less busy
I know why I got confused, this is from the user's guide
"
Oracle records an archived log in
the control file whenever one of the following occurs:
n The archiver process archives a redo log
n RMAN restores an archived log
n The RMAN COPY command copies a log
n The RMAN CATALOG command catalogs a user-managed backup of an
archived log
" ... nothing to do with the catalog!
Also, that's good to see about the 9i enhancements on the metalink doc.
One last question : how often do you resync ? Twice a day ?
If there is no solution, it is because there is no problem - Shadok -

RMAN automatically issues a resync when you issue a "backup" or a "delete". You only need to resync manually if you aren't connected to the catalog during backups. The RMAN user guide talks at length about it.
