    Angry

Installed Oracle 8.1.6 enterprise server on NT 4.0 server with 256MB ram. database works, however can't get the oracle management server running, checked the installtion document, says that OMS requires IIS 4.0 and Oracle application server 4.0.8, is this true?. I can find IIS however can't get oracle application server. it is not in the enterprise server package that I ordered

Without Oracle management server running, can't use OEM and related utilities.

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

No you don't need IIS4 or OAS to run the Oracle Management Server...

Have you installed the OMS from the Server CD? If so, What errors are you getting?

I find the OMS service takes a long while to start on some machines.

What messages are you getting in the events log?
What service pack is NT on?

I installed it a while ago, and had a few problems - can't remember how I resolved them though :(

Have you configured the username etc. for the OMS? (Under the option on the start menu).

I need to install again on this machine either later or tomorrow, so If I get time I'll let you know.

    Hi

Try to start oms from a command windows using
    oemctrl start oms

to get all options just type oemctrl from the dos command window.

Here you go. This is something that I have written for my personal use, check it. I thought it might help you a bit.

What to do, if you cannont start the oracle management server process through

    oemctrl start oms?

    Trouble shooting:

    oemctrl status oms

    OEMCTRL for Solaris: Version 2.1.0.0.0

Copyright (c) 1998, 1999 Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.

VXA-2010 : Unable to bind to Oracle Management Server server_name

    Fix:

    1) ps -ef|grep oracle

    2) Note down the process numbers for

    /bin/sh /usr/local/oracle/app/oracle/product/8.1.6/bin/launchOms

    /home/db/oracle/app/oracle/jre/1.1.8/bin/../bin/sparc/native_threads/jre -nojit

    3) Kill those process

    4) Now do,

    oemctrl start oms

    5) Confirm it by

    oemctrl status oms
