Oracle Data Base Administrator

Our client is a mid-stage start-up software company with a solid track record of profitability. After only 3 years, they have taken the multiplayer gaming market by storm. The Database Administrator (DBA) will be a primary owner of physical database design standards for the organization. The DBA will also be an active participant in defining data quality policies and procedures for the database; initial responsibilities in leading the migration from MySql/Linux to Oracle 9i RAC/Solaris. Additional responsibilities include:


Managing database objects and data as stored procedures, triggers, tables, and views

Identifying and analyzing database performance issues

Taking a proactive role in determining improvement opportunities and data quality enhancements in both pre- and post-production

Conforming to all data quality policies and standards adopted by our client.

Providing technical expertise to translate business requirements into a set of database design specifications

Partnering with other database administrators, data analysts and application developers to design and implement Database solutions


Experience with design, implementation and execution of backup and recovery. High availability and disaster recovery.

Skills Requirements:
Solid understanding of Linux and UNIX
Oracle versions 8i and/or 9i (Oracle 9i RAC is a plus)
Expertise in database backup and disaster recovery using RMAN and third party tools.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
5-10 years of experience with database administration with strong Oracle Applications background.

EDUCATION REQUIRED
B.S. Degree in Computer Science or equivalent

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED
Perl and JAVA
MCP or OCP Certification
Ecommerce/OLTP background
Star schemas, dimensional modeling and data warehousing experience a plus
Sysytems Administration experience in Linux and UNIX (Sun Solaris) environments. Microsoft SQL Server experience a plus (SQL scripting, creation and modification of triggers, stored procedures)
