The disks here were not raid when I arrived, hence the hard failures when disks had problems.
I have a raid array up and could not forfeit much space so I chose raid-5 ( loss of one hot spare, one drives worth of parity ).
This is not ideal but we have no budget for more hardware.
I have the array up but cannot figure out how to format/mount it.
Cant wait to get to the part where I install oracle
Have you looked at BigAdmin ?
They should be able to help you. If you are doing a software raid, you may want to find the money and buy a couple of raid cards.
