    DR Test and dataguard

I need to test data guard for a DR test with real prod data *gulp*

I want to perform a failover and not affect production

    My thinking is this

Verify full backup of prod and standby at Time X
    Shutdown primary gracefully
Initiate failover processes at DR site as if primary did not exist
    Proceed with DR Test
    Complete DR test.
Sutdown standby and wipe it clean, remove df's, logs etc
Restore standby backup from time X
    Restart production X

Sound copasetic? Any flaws in my master plan ?

    Yup, that'll suffice.

Just curious on the extent/scope of the 'DR test'. Are the folks actually gonna change the DNS and make sure everything works seamlessly; or is this simply an exercise to open the standby database for the developers/managers to show'em that a standby actually works! If it's the latter, you might as well simply open it in a read-only mode..and rid yourself of the headache of rebuilding it.

thanks, enviornment has application and web servers so opening read only doesn't cut the mustard. The app managees security so if we opened in read only no one would be able to log on to the app, and no dns hocus pocus unless ya can spare a brother 50 large for the toy to do that
