    sum(sharable_mem)

    Hello DBAs,

Is sum(sharable_mem) from v$sqlarea any indication of how full shared pool is ? Can it indicate how close things are to getting ORA-04031 error ? Can it be used as an indication to do "alter system flush shared_pool" until there is an opportunity to bounce the dba and increase the shared pool ?

BTW, this is 32-bit 806 db.

    Thanks

And then, whats the difference between sum(sharable_mem) from v$sqlarea and "free memory" from v$sgastat where pool='shared pool' ??

Do not think so i.e sum(sharable_mem) is not an ideal indicator of shared_pool usage - use "free memory" from v$sgastat.
