Maximum no of datafiles added by u in a single tspace
hi folks
i wanted to know one thing
What is the maximum number of datafiles u have added in a single tablespace.
ie when a tablespace gets full we add a datafile manually , so how many datafiles you have added.
This is without using AUTOEXTEND OPTION.

Cool down. Had you read some basics you wouldn't have asked this question.
Look into v$datafile for ts# and creation_time. You will find how many files each tablespace has and when they were created.

Hi Gajanan
Depends upon the application really..If home grown i will go on adding 2Gb datafiles and i would prefer it that way..not autoextend my datafiles..
I ahve some ERP applications where the daatfiles for a tablespace is around 300+ there are some other applications where the datafiles are in the range of 128.
some applications we purge old data after some specified years so the space in the datafile is reused and we have around 20-30 datafiles only..
so teh answer is not very str8 forward it really depends.

Hrishy

Maximum per tablespace: Operating system dependent; usually 1022.
Maximum per database: 65533.

gajanan's just asking how many you have used, not how many is a good idea, or how many are theretically possible. Those would just be bonuses.

That might change from version to version, but the current Reference manual (Physical Limits) - 9i will always show you the number.
