RAC configuration in Linux

Hi Techies,

I would like to implement Oracle 10g RAC on Linux. I have Intel P1V and PIII machines running Red Hat Linux .


My question is Do I require any special Hardwared Device to Configure RAC. I heard that it requires SAN environment. But I don't have SAN H/w. Is it possible to implement RAC on Intel machines for testing purpose without SAN Hardware?

I have the same question. I would like to install and mess with RAC but not sure what the requirement are??? If I have two servers, is it good enough for I need to have some special hardware????

Could someone please give us some advises????

You need a disk physically connected to both computers.

For Oracle RAC on Linux, you not always need SAN as shared storage.

Oracle certified the NetworkAppliance NFS implementation for RAC. You can also use this NAS with iSCSI HBA if performance is a critical.

Another options (although just for testing ) include: Firewire driver for Linux and Linux NBD implementation. For more info about these two: Click here

It's just practice purpose I guess. So, I dont think you will buy any new hardware. May be, you can watchdog software that makes your local harddisk work as shared raw device. I have no detail. But, heared my fellow DBA installing OPS on Linux with the help of watch dog. He took some time as there were somany bugs popping up. Just give hard try.
