    Ok if you say so but that does not make any sense

    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs...e_ps.htm#63563

    which says...
    "The control file must also be created after the last time stamp for the backup datafiles."

    4) create standby controlfile
    5) startup
    6) got these errors

    so i changed to the below

    Hi,

    I think the Oracle manual is confusing.

    To get the standby controlfile to work properly, you have to recover _past_ the last SCN recorded in it. So, back to your case:

    First time
    Hot backup files
    Create standby controlfile
    => error

    Second time
    Create standby controlfile
    Hot backup files
    => OK

    Second time around, changes will have been made on the system while the hot backup was going on, so you ended up recovering past the point when you created your standby controlfile.

    Top tip:
    Create standby controlfile
    alter system archive log current;

    Works every time.

    Cheers,

    Annabel

    Might be, but this thread still clearly indicates that you don't understand how standby database (or recovery in general) works...

    What jmodic says rings true -> looks like the poser has no clue as to waht a standby is -> hope a recovery on this db is not reqd. in the near future !!
