Very slow Oracle installation with file system settings
Environment:
Oracle 9.2.0.1
Solaris 8
Veritas Volume Manager 3.0.4
System: Sun E250 with dual ~300MHz CPUs and 6 internal disks; 2 in rootdg, the other 4 in RAID 5 with no logging
Based on some recommendation of Metalink, I set the following options for mounting a vxfs file system:
-o mincache=direct,convosync=direct,largefiles
However, I notice once I mounted with the options and start installing Oracle 9.2.0.1 to the file system, it takes very long time to install. After inserting CD #2 6 hours ago, it is still installing from the CD. Same thing happened to CD #1. The java process spawned from the installation program uses 80+% CPU constantly.
There is no failure in the RAID 5. Can someone suggest how to troubeshoot this?
Thanks!
