Moving Production database to new machine
We have one production oracle database ver 9.2.0.1.on solaris 8.We want to move it to new solaris machine.I have two questions first We want to move it to new machine whats the best possible way to go so that downtime is minimal or no downtime. Second question is we want to upgrade this database ver to 9.2.0.4 on new machine. Should we install 10g database on new machine and do import/export from older version of our database or should we install the same version 9.2.0.1 on new machine and apply upgrade patch on new machine. I want to minimse the time of transition for this process. Any Suugestions will be greatly appreciated

the upgrade is your downtime.
If you are moving same to same (ie hardware, software etc) then create a standby db on the new server and then perform a switchover operation that will gracefully switch the db to the new server and zero data loss. Your downtime with a switchover should be inside of an hour if all goes well.
