    Can I use a single recovery catalog (RMAN repository) to backup databases across OS??

    Hi,
    Can I use a single recovery catalog (RMAN repository) to backup and restore databases across multiple OS's? I'm new to RMAN..and the TRM doesn't seem to address this.

    I hope to use a 9.2.0.1 RMAN repository (on a Solaris machine) to backup (& restore) multiple databases (8,8i,9i) across different Operating Systems and versions (Solaris, AIX, W2k, 4.0 etc). Anyone doing this? Any issues? Is RMAN database cloning across OS's possible?

    Thanks.

    Sure, you can use one recovery catalog across multiple platforms. I have backed up Solaris, Linux and Windoz databases using one recovery catalog.

    You can NOT restore across platforms. For example, you can't restore your Windoz database on Solaris.

    Jeff, did you figure out how

    CONFIGURE ARCHIVELOG DELETION POLICY TO ;

    works in 10g?

    I think this is related only to standby databases?
