    32 or 64 bit? (Windows 2003 problem)

I have a problem installing 9.2.0.1.0 on a Windows 2003 Standard edition server.

The support Matrix shows that only 9.2.0.3+ is supported on 32 and 64 bit Windows, but insists that I have to patch up to 9.2.0.3+ in order to be supported.

However, I can't even install it (in iorder to be able to patch it!) as I get an error message as soon as I try and run the installer GUI which tells me "D:\install\win64.setup.exe" is not a Win32 application".

Is the server software installed or configured okay? According to OTN note 161546 (32 bit Win OS) I need to install 9.2.0.1 (which is what I have)and patch to 9.2.0.3+.

So is my Windows 2003 32 or 64 bit? I can't seem to find out where to find this information?

If it is 64 bit Windows, is it possible to get Ora 9i 9.2.0.3 on install cd-roms from Support?

I have never tried on Windows 2003, but I strugled last time when I was runing the same in other vrs which are not NT base. Try if the same can run on Windows 2000 Proffession or ant NT base.
    Hoping your heading somewhere

Yes I think it is 32 bit Windows.
(Which seems strange for a 2003 release????)

    Options are:

    (a) Upgrade Win2003 to 64 bit Enterprise Edition.(?)
    (b) Install an NT based version of Windows
    or
    (c) Install a version of Ora9i > 9.2.0.3

But can you get full install disks (cd-rom) for 9.2.0.3+ ?

    63 Bits huh

i think for Windows you can only get 9.2.0.2 and then you will have to get the patch files.

Dont think 9i in certified on NT either, think are stuck with 2000 XP Prof or 2003

Out of curioustym can you not use 32Bit windows?

    Davey,
63 bits? Whatever do u mean?

The version of Win2003 is 'Standard' edition, which is, it seems, 32 bit.

When I try and install 9.2.0.1 the installer fails because it is not a 32 bit application (according to the Windows error). So I think even if I go to 9.2.0.2+ then it'll still fail. (No?)

As for certified combinations - I've installed uncertified combinations before so I think this problem I have now must be because we need a 64 bit windows. This would enable me to install 9.2.0.1 and patch up to 9.2.0.4 - No?

In order to run Windows 2003 as a 64 bit OS you must be running on a 64 bit processor, which means either an Intel Itanium or AMD Opteron (A64). If you are on a Xeon or other 32 bit processor you will have installed the 32 bit version of Windows.
