shutdown immediate command
hi
This might be simple question to most of the folks here , but just wanted to know this
when i issue a shutdown immediate command how much time it takes for the DB to shutdown.
If around 270 to 300 oracle process are running and u issue the shutdown immediate command how long it should take.
Thanks

Any uncommited transactions have to be rolled back - if there is a massive one it might take hours!

Hi
Processes involved in shutting down the database with immediate option are:
1. Oracle Server wouldn’t allow any new (user process) connection; session to the D/B server & no new transactions will be allowed.
2. Oracle Server will wait till all active transactions get rollback, once all the transactions get rollback immediately it will disconnects the active user processes.
3. There is no requirement for Instance Recovery.
Catch is, there is no fixed time for closing the database with shutdown immediate option, and it all depends on the NUMBER & TYPES of server processes running at that point of time.
With Warm Regards
