Thread: datafile recovery

    Exclamation

    i have a user datafile of size 145mb in personal oracle. i have changed my system and loaded personal oracle once again.
    now from my backup drive i want to add this datafile to the new database. how can i do this??
    how to change the controlfile to have an entry for the new datafile??

    It doesn't quite work like that unfortunately...

    What you'll need to do is either restore the whole database from your backup copy.

    or

    Export the tables who's data is in the datafile, import into your new database.

    thanx for answering, i want ask can i copy even my system tablespace datafiles because they will have an entry in my controlfile??

    you need to restore everything from your old database, not just one or two or even more but imcomplete number of files

    If u're using oracle 8i personal edition, it can be done via export
    with transportable tablespace option, then copy the datafile to ur
    source database and then import it dump file into the database.
    while importing, it wil make an entry into the data dictionary.
    This works fine, only if the former database has the same
    configuration of the later database.

    HELLO,
    AS PANDO SAID U NEED TO RESTORE ALL SYSTEM DATAFILES,USER,TEMP,RBS ,INDX I.E,ALL DATAFILES
    WHICH IS IN DATABASE FOLDER IN ORACLE HOME.
    THEN YOUR CONTROLFILES OF THAT TIME,REDOLOGFILES ALL HAS TO BE RESTORED ALSO.TRY IT AND SEE.
