i have a user datafile of size 145mb in personal oracle. i have changed my system and loaded personal oracle once again.
now from my backup drive i want to add this datafile to the new database. how can i do this??
how to change the controlfile to have an entry for the new datafile??

It doesn't quite work like that unfortunately...
What you'll need to do is either restore the whole database from your backup copy.
or
Export the tables who's data is in the datafile, import into your new database.

you need to restore everything from your old database, not just one or two or even more but imcomplete number of files

If u're using oracle 8i personal edition, it can be done via export
with transportable tablespace option, then copy the datafile to ur
source database and then import it dump file into the database.
while importing, it wil make an entry into the data dictionary.
This works fine, only if the former database has the same
configuration of the later database.
