    Index Tuning Wizard

    Hi all,

I have a question about Index Tuning Wizard in OEM. After running this tools, we got the list of index that Oracle recommend us to have. The question I have is:

    1. Is this tools good and reliable enough for us to trust??? the reason I am saying that is how does Oracle know which SQL statement on which query need the index on that table so Oracle think it needs the index????

    thanks

Oracle goes by the statistics in the data dictionary to make its decisions.

You and I will do the same. If you do not generate statistics regularly, probably the recommendations will be off somewhat.

The correct way to check whether the Tuning wizard is right ot not is to compare the explain plans before and after the change.
