Certification is like a movie ticket. You can enter the movie theater. But if you don't know the language, it's no use ! sooner or later the theater will run out of seats and ...... !!!!!!
I don't know that analogy is right! But, have seen people got OCP's even if they have never worked on Oracle. How ? A way to test your memory and lots of ways (STS & Other) to memorize...

Hey, your looking at one. Got my Oracle 8 OCP by taking a class, STS and installing Oracle 8 enterprise at home. So I guess I speak from experience.
We are talking about few OCP's who ask/send emails how to where to find oracle docs/how to start database/how to recover lost data and how to get job. Did I ever say all OCP's.
muahhahaha...i agree to a point. i've definitely come across a number of know nothing OCPs in my day, but i think i'm doing it right..got my OCP, and now i'm grinding away as a JR DBA...making sure to learn as much as i can.
i think you can tell more by a person's work ethic and overall 'techie intelligence' than a certification...my current contract, however, had a nice raise included in it once i got certified
