Product User Profile
We have a read only user on our Main production database that another database uses via a link. The password for this user account can't be altered as the developers hardcoded it into their app that uses this 2nd database.(I know, I know)
Consequently - the developers now have access to the live database (albeit read only - 'SELECT' only on a subset of tables). They are starting to use TOAD to connect and run queries and I want to stop them. I've told them but one keeps connecting.
Can I use PUP to prevent this access? Not sure how to create a record that would stop TOAD users connecting.
I can't diasble the read only account nor change the password. Do i have any alternatives?

setup an alias that goes through a connection manager. Inside the connection manager, only allow the ip of your remote server.
Mr. H would have have another opinion involving a S&W .45...

Ok, give me a clue
(a) Where can I read up on that?
(b) How much is a S&W .35?

B go for B!!!
alternativly how about an on logon trigger that kills the session if its that USERNAME is that login and the PROGRAM is toad.exe?

You boys and your guns!
I could be sarcastic now about America and Gunchester ...
I was thinking about the logon trigger but thought PUP might be easier. On the subject does the PUP table recognise 'TOAD'? Or is Oracle specific?

Not to hijack or anything, but my co-DBA is all excited because Ohio is letting him carry a "concealed weapon" (ie. "hidden gun") in public. Just in case a MacPerson misses out the MacGerkhin from his MacBurger, presumably.
I tell him, "Guns don't kill people, Americans kill people".

That whole country is mental.
Hundreds of young guys are coming home in body bags just so that moron gets re-elected, and the nation is OUTRAGED at Janet Jackson's right breast.
Get a grip people!
(Ooer, bit of politics there.)
