10g unable to connect to 8.x?

ORA-03134: Connections to this server version are no longer supported.

    Is this true?

Apparently. Depends on what you are using to make the connection (SQL*Plus, EMC, etc.). What are you using?

Logged a TAR .. 10g will only connect to 8.1.7.4 or above.

All our 8i databases are 8.1.7.2 .. ouch!

How 'bout a way to spoof the version number?

OK, you ran sqlplus on 10.1.0.1.0, then what did you do to connect from your 10.x client to a 8.1.7.0 server?

This may be something they changed in 10.2 (released version - for linux)
