    Default timestamp for Date column

    Hi friends,

I have a date column in a table.
There is a way of setting the database so that the entire timestamp is stored in the column instead of just the date.
Can anyone refresh me on this? Is this an init.ora setting?

    Thanks!

are you talking about what is displayed when you select the column?

just set the NLS_DATE_FORMAT to something usefull, like:-

    >alter session set NLS_DATE_FORMAT='Dy DD-Mon-YYYY HH24:MI:SS';

    Thanks mrchrispy for refreshing me.

And Abhay, hope you know what 'refresh' means. It means I have forgotten. Thanks for nothing.

What needed refreshing here was your knowledge of the documentation -- a re-read of the Concepts guide does us all good now and then, and would have answered your question as well.

    Sorry Pando,

Fact is that I didnt have access to my manuals here.
Stuck up at a client site on the fly and sometimes one does forget things.
Its not my intent to hit this excellent site when I do have access to immediate resources.
I have benefited greatly from this site and consider it the best online and do not hesitate to recommend it anytime.
But I do believe it is not good to post replies to read the manuals or finger a persons frailty this way.
That is why I said thanks for nothing earlier.
In 2 years this is the first time I have ever encountered a response like this.
Let us keep this site as great as it always was.
    Long live dbasupport.com.

    Thanks,
