I generated scripts with DBCA by the way, just that I ra the script manually, it worked fine except this warning

I don't use em either, but the default version that comes with 10g is pretty informative.

yeah its pretty good, I like em that comes with the db.
Just cant get it to start after a reboot :(

Well, no. Not in the long run. You can cheat Oracle this way but you may get all sort of problems with the database in the future.

You may get all sorts of problems if you don't run in archivelog mode, but people still do it. When you're just trying to get your feet wet, why not run on RH9 if you can? I don't think anybody is seriously contemplating putting a production box on RH9...
