How to reclaim TEMP and UNDO space

    Hello DBAs,

Since Oracle introduced automatic UNDO management and the concept of Temporary Tablespaces, life has become easier(?) for the DBA, or so they say..

It is so happening that as the space is consumed in either of these tablespaces, they just keep getting filled-up. Even the TEMP tablespace also doesnt free-up its extents (even after restarting an instance).

Has anybody any suggestion on how to reclaim this space? Please dont start with "Add more datafiles/drop and recreate the tablespace etc.".. I need some concrete solution for this problem.

    Regards,

What are the values of these parameters in init.ora?

    UNDO_MANAGEMENT
    UNDO_TABLESPACE
    UNDO_RETENTION
    UNDO_SUPPRESS_ERRORS

Are you actually getting errors or are you just baffled/offended that the TS looks full?

My experience of Temp under LMT is that it always looks full - SO WHAT? That's how Oracle manages it.

    Regards,
The concrete solution that you are groping for is at http://tahiti.oracle.com -- as DaPi says, this is how Oracle works.
