    Refreshing Dev Database

    Hi,
What is the best way to refresh the Development database from the production database (24/7). No downtime is accepted.

    Indeed they can.

You don't mention RMAN so I assume you're not using it? If so, see this .

If you do use RMAN to backup, then see

How big is the production database? If you have space for placing export dump files , export import should help or else restore from hot backup and apply archives.

    hacketta1,

    Thx for the links..
Is the same thing applies, if i am creating d/b on different machine ???

    Preeti,
The data is huge...more than 50gb. Exp/Imp is ruled out.

You're not using RMAN for this right?

Yes, it's still the same, except you'll obviously have to copy your hotbackup, init.ora, archive logs etc. from one host to another. If the other host has a different directory structure then no problems here; you just edit the create controlfile script so the path for each file reflects the new directory.
