    I purchased the media and a trial license for Oracle 8i Personal Edition Release 2 (8.1.6) and installed it on my Win98 PC at home.

    The install seemed to go OK but when I try to launch SQL*PLUS, I can't get past the logon screen. I don't know what to put into the USER NAME, PASSWORD, and HOSTSTRING fields.

    When I created the default database I used the following names:

    name.domain: n.d
    SID: n
    DBA_Authorization: oracle (default)
    Internal Account Password: ****** (default)
    Sys Account Password: change_on_install (default)
    System Account Password: manager (default)

    Can't figure out which of these strings goes in which field on the logon screen. The "documentation" included on the CD's is voluminous and confusing.

    I am about 8 weeks through a 26 week program at the University of Minnesota. Others in the class are also having trouble, and I will pass on any solutions to the others. Thanks!

    Are U have the DB created? If so, U need to start it first.
    Then try to use the user name: system, password:manager;
