    Hi,

i tried to startup an Oracle instance (version 8) on WinNT 4.0 setting the services in Regedit to Manually, created a CMD. with following sentence:
oradim -startup -sid XXX -usrpwd ORACLE -pfile f:\XXX\pfile\initXXX.ora -starttype srvc, inst

put it in the ...Micorsoft/system/Winlogon as a command and it doesn't function.

I recieved following message in the oradim.log:
    ****************************************
    Oradim80: Command Line Mode.
    ----------------------------

Please specify service or instance to start.
    ****************************************

Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?`

Is there a better way to startup automatically an oracle instance? I' tried it with the automatically way and didn't function.

    Thanks a lot in advance!

Did you set the Oracle Sid prior to running Oradim
    Set oracle_sid = database_name

I woul dnot recommend using Oradim to start/stop a database as you have to have the internal password in a file which could breach security for your site

Create a user and grantthat user the SYSOPER role
Then connect username/password as sysoper for this user and all this user can do is start/stop the database and nothing else. Therefore the integrity and security of the database remains in tact

    I hope this helps

    Cheers
    :p :p :p
