    Archived Redologs Destination Doubt.

    The objective is to have arch destination set in two different servers and to have redo archived logs in 2 different servers for security.

    ORACLE 8.1.7 - LINUX

    Arch destination 1 - It will store the archived redo logs in the same server.
    IP address for example - 200.124.123.112 /u01/home/oracle/arch

    Arch destination 2 - i want to set the destination address in a different server box having different IP.
    200.124.123.4 ex / usr/oracle/arch

    First question
    - is this possible ?
    - if yes - then see i will be specifying a destination path
    ex /usr/oracle/arch - how the unix server recognizes the path without specifying the IP address .

    YES possible by using tnsnames.ora file and defining log_archive_dest_state_2 = enable
    log_archive_dest_2 = 'service=tnsnameEntry reopen=120'

    But you must have a Standby database setup for this configuration.

    Set your log_archive_Dest_2 to an NFS mounted filesystem.
