Redo Log Group, members on a separate disk

    Hi all,

    Happy New Year to all.

We have two Redo log groups having 3 members each. But, since the begining, all members of a particular log group are on the same disk. Oracle recommends to have members of the same group on a separate disk so that in case a particular disk fails, we do not loose all members and there is no need to do database recovery.

Now, pl. tell me what is the procedure for relocating the members on separate disks.

    Thanks in Adv.
    Sam

    HI,

    1. Backup the Database ( For Security Reason)

    2. Using operating system method copy the online redolog files to
    the new location

    3. Alter database rename file (from) to (destination)

    4. Backup the ControlFile

    Davey23uk,

Do I need to open the database in Restricted mode to do this or I can do it online?

    Thanks,
    Sam

Great question to research on your own given that you've stated you want to get certified.
