Problem with DBMS_STATS
Hi Oracle Gurus,
Whenever I run dbms_stats.gather_table_stats('',''); for a particular table in my database I get the following error.
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-01114: IO error writing block to file %s (block # %s)
and get disconnected from oracle.
I have checked DBA_TABLES and other details about the table but I am not finding anything unsual about this particular table.
The same works fine with the other tables in the same schema.
The oracle version is 9.2.0.4 on sun 2.8.
If anybody has come across the following problem please help me regarding this.
Thanks

Check your alert log files. Some good info must be there.

No Info in alert log
Hi,
The strangest thing is that there is no new alert log entry, I have tried to run the same a few time, got error every time but no entry in alert log.
Please look into this matter.
Thanks

What is the last date of the alert log entry..? No new entries..? What is the size of the alert log file?
-
Also check the physical disk space available where the datafile (tablespaces/datafiles associated with STATSPACK )located.

Alls well with database
There is no problem of free space in the tablespaces and no disk space issues. There is only log switch entries in the alert.log file no unsual entries. Has it to do anything with TEMP tablespace, I am havin locally managed tablespace for temp.
Even tables which are bigger than this table are getting analyzed without any error. Can this be problem with the particular table. Where can I find if it is so. The status of the table is valid.
What type of object related errors can cause such error. I could not find any related doc on metalink too.

Check the datafile or tablespace status. All the datafiles are online?
-
Once again all's well
All's well with v$tablesspace, v$backup, v$recover_file, dba_tablespaces, dba_free_space, dba_data_files.
