Oracle 9i on Windows 2000 Adv server

Using Oracle 9i, how can I force the Windows service that controls the database to startup using the init parameter file instead of the spfile?

I am attempting to cluster the database using Oracle FailSafe, but it appears that just using the Windows service does not successfully start the database. It cannot be accessed via logon using SQL Plus.

However, when I use OEM to start the database specifying the init file instead of the spfile, the database works as expected.

I have added a registry key ORA__PFILE pointing to the pfile, but it seems to be ignored.

the order of init is: spfile first, and then pfile
So you can delete/rename spfile to force pfile is used.
