High Disk I/O
Hi
In our Production database we have high disk I/Os.
Could somebody pls let me know how to avoid these?
and where things should be checked in first place?

well if you have high disk i/o you either have a very bad setup or you dont have enough disks / controllers

You could start looking at your top 10 SQL and drilling down the queries. Sometimes a performance index can help out tremendously.
My apps have a download daemon that kicks off every 15 seconds, by adding one index we avoided a FTS when this runs. Compound this throughout the day and the savings is signifigant.

I remember when this place was cool.

bad set up means Tablespace organization and all or bad queries?
which one of these can be a major factor in this?
thanx

The volume of physical i/o's is not affected by tablespace organization -- the duration of i/o waits might be though.
SQL tuning sounds like the right answer here.

Do you have high % of IO utilization? Do you have number of Mb per sec read/write? If number mb read/write is low but % is high there could be problem either with disks/san setup or something else with hard disk.
One, who thinks that the other one who thinks that know and does not know, does not know either!
