Sun as Primary & NT as Standby

Some body asked me in the interview that they r planning to have Primary database on Sun Sor. Server and Standby database on NT server.
Is it possoble ?.

I told them it is not possible to have differnt OS on Primary & Standby.

Yes they can use Export & Import utility. means Take export from SUN & import on NT.

I like to clerify that is there any third party tool or some Middle Tyre avaiable so that 2 different database on different OS can communicate. If Yes, then kindly provide detail and How it can be achived.
