Can I say that different tablespaces for each department(e.g ACCOUTING, MARKETING,SALES,ETC) can be refered to as applications? Or actually they are called applications?
No. The tablespaces represent storage areas in which you can build segments such as tables to support your applications. You might name your tablespaces to reflect the applications they support, but that does not make them applications.
This would be like if I had two garages - one I park my Ford in, the other for my Chevy. I might call the garages 'Ford' and 'Chevy', but that does not mean my garages are cars.
