    Question contol file to trace

Do you mean if you backup your controlfile to trace?

If you do that then you get a create database script in file format. Are you familiar with this? Lemme know.

    Magnus -
You get a CREATE CONTROLFILE script, not CREATE DATABASE. Of course, this script is easily converted to CREATE DATABASE!

I am looking to create a new database using a parameter file (init.ora).

Well, actually, I am importing a full .dmp onto a new machine. I have default init.ora file that I don't want to use. See? NOw, I am requesting the init.ora file from the dba where the .dmp came from.

I will need to change the name so that my new database will recognize it, right?

I need to manually create the database...no default settings, right? This would be done in sql command environment, right?

I hope you guys can be patient with me.

I am learning and trying to simply import this file so that we can program from there. If you have any input...

Is this all I need now: a parameter file and the full .dmp???
    Thanks,
    Rara.

I suggest you to use the Oracle database assistant and select expert option. The final option will give you the option to create the database or scripts.
