read only tablespace / backup procedure

    Hi All,

I currently am operating in Noarchivelog mode and performing full cold backups once a week. Stay Calm, we don't have many updates and can afford a week loss. Backups are script based.

Question is: I want to put several huge tablespaces in read only mode.

Do I have to be in archivelog mode?
Can I still perform cold weekly backups, minus the RO tbsp datafiles?
    How will this recover?

If anyone has a backup/recovery strategy for read only, please share.

    Thanks,
    Kathy

You can put your tablespaces in READONLY mode even if you are running in NOARCHIVELOG mode.
You can backup those tablesapce once after putting them into READONLY mode and exclude them from subsequent backups.
