    Question trace files use in oracle 8

    we have installed oracle 8 server on netware server .
    in our server \\ORANW803\RDBMS80\TRACE folder in that folder somany trce files are reside. like Orclsnp0.trc , 000004f8.trc and one log file Orclalrt.log . are there any use with these files or not ... if i delete them any thing goes wrong .... why because this log file is occuping 1 gb space ...where as trace file occupies 100 kb etc plz give me a solution

    Yes, you can remove trace files, and Orclalrt.log will be used as cronological log for your Database, It generally include messages for Database startup, shutdown, Log switch.

    You can also remove Orclalrt.log file, but truncating from the beginning will be a good practice. If you remove it Oracle server will create one.

    To know position of these files check parameter BACKGROUND_DUMP_DEST.

    u should take copy of alert.log into another location(if space problem is there )before deleting. Because sometimes it helps
    in solving the future problems.
