If you are doing export/import then you can directly export from Oracle7.3 and import into Oracle9i.

    Hi Adewri
my question is still the same

    wil, it work .
2> How can i estimate the size of dmp file on windows please provide the steps.
3> can we implement Oracle parallel server on 7.3 Workstation with distributed environment? If yes can i get some link r any white paper for implementing this thing? or do you have any steps for that.

Please have a look on both the 3 questions.

Yes it will work. You need to pre-create the tablespaces in the 9i databases. Then use oracle7.3 exp utility to export and Oracle9i import utility ro import.

You need to create a migration testing environment if possible. Do a sample database export and import and then run existing applications to see if there are any possible glitch, if there are then look for the solutions or available patches on metalink. Then when you are sure that everything has been resolved, do the final upgrade.

OPS on workstations ?? i didn't get that. If you just read the concepts of RAC (OPS in 8i and earlier) that might give you a clear picture. For RAC you need to have atleast 3 nodes. Two for Oracle Software and instances and one to store the shared database.

Why 3 Amar? RAC needs minimum two nodes and a shared disk array.
