    Patch Installation Problems

    hi

    oracle 8.1.7
    windows 2000

I have downloaded the oracle patch and unzipped it in to oracle home directory.

Note while installing patches i have brought the database down.

when it unzipped it made a directory called Disk1 i
and in that there is setup.exe file. This is for Interactive GUI based patch installation .

While i double click with mouse the setup.exe file it doesnot start the installation nor it gives me the GUI universal installer screen to proceed for installation.

The same i tried to run from the command prompt it doesnt do anything.

    No error message displayed also

what could be the problem is the file not properly downloaded.
I will paste u the FTP log also .

i downloaded the patch from upates.oracle.com by using ftp command.
    My ftp transfer log says
226 File retrieval complete. Data connection has been closed.
    ftp: 117934561 bytes received in 27021.80Seconds 4.36Kbytes/sec.

    Please let me know

    Thanks in advance

there is no problems with your download. DId you ever apply the patch before???? Please read the full detail instructions of how to install the patch and it should be on the same zip file that you download from Oracle and it's very straight forward.

    hi,
look for the setup file inside another folder (in patchset 9.0.1.3 it's in \install\win32\).

What Pravin u r saying was correct.AFter the universal installer screen will appear, normally it will take the source path as cdrom. In that u have to give that patch downloadable path.afterwards then proceed.

    I solved this

Since it was P4 box , i had to rename the symcjit.dll file as symcjit.old.

Then i clicked the setup.exe it started the installtion.

    Thanks for ur time.
