    Hi,
One colleague of mine , by mistake , deleted some crucial script files , from a directory.I have no idea if the sys admin has taken a backup of the system. Is there any possible way I could retrive the lost data.

    Unix ain't like windoz.
    if you issue a $> rm file.lis or a $> rm *.dbf

you are screwed.unless of course you have a backup

afaik on Unix when they are gone...they are gone, they maybe some uber inode type hax that'll get them back but you'd best start groveling to the sys admin.

    Hi,
    thanks for the reply.
    Actually what has happened is

    The statement issued was
rm *>LOG instead of rm *.LOG

This deleted all the files in that directory..as well as all the sub-directories..leaving behind a 0 byte LOG file.:-(
