install Oracle9i on a Red Hat Linux 9 machine
Hi,
I would like to install Oracle9i on a Red Hat Linux 9 machine (a Dell machine). I don't know which Oracle9i I should download. Should I get
Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard Edition for Linux/IA64, Release 2 (v9.2.0.2)
or
Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard Edition for Linux (v9.2.0.1)
Thank you,
Jiong

If you plan to use it on production, your answer is "NONE". AFAIK, Oracle 9i is not certified to run on RH9.
In other words, you won't get any support from Oracle.

I understand. I am just trying to install it for practice not for production. Do you know which Oracle9i I should install?
Thanks,

Oracle9i Database Release 2 Enterprise/Standard Edition for Linux (v9.2.0.1). This should work for you.
Other may also work, but your purpose will be solved by this one.

Jiong,
If you're going through with this install, do the custom install and uncheck the Legato storage thingy. Last time I did an install on Linux (advance server 2.1) it failed cause of some bug related to Legato.
Oracle it's not just a database it's a lifestyle!

I've installed Oracle 9.2.0.1 on my Red Hat Linux 9.0 server at home. There are a couple of "gotchas". Before running the "runInstaller" program issue the following command:
$ export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.1
Otherwise you will get linker errors during install. In addition, the Oracle Intelligent Agent will not link, probably because of a glibc problem. Other than that everything works fine. I recently patched it up to 9.2.0.4 with no problems.
As stated previously however, this platform is not supported by Oracle so you're on your own.
