migrating 7.2.3 to 9i
Hi,
It seems 7.2.3 cannot be directly migrated to 9i.So we plan to do an export and import. What are the factors I should consider before proceeding with this migration.
So the experienced ones please share your ideas/tips/issues.
Thanks and Regards

No big one : ** surely ** imp 9i CAN read 7.x .dmp files (i did it many times) - of course, it IS a big upgrade, SO you MUST test througly your apps & clients against the new db , BUT regarding data import, no foreseable troubles.

So what is your problem (I mean, were there any bad experiences with using these) with running the upgrade scripts so you can migrate v7 to 9i? It's no big deal, just have to do it in increments because the versions are so far apart.

Hi ,
Will migration allow me to do changes to the table structure and tablespace mangt to LMT.
thanks.

How were you planning on doing changes to a table's structure via export/import?
Converting to LMT: you either have to do that manually after the migration or when you create the tablespaces in the database for the import. Either way requires your involvement.

Planning to create the user/roles and tablespaces in advance followed by user level exp/imp
Just do a structural export and then import with indexfile option.
Modify and run the script.
Then do actual export and import with ignore option.
Am I in the right direction or missing something

If you are planning to use export/import for migration, I don't see any problem.
If you plan to migrate using igration scripts, go through this doc:

But don't stop at 9.0.1 - go on to 9.2.0.1 (or later).
