    Creating a second $ORACLE_HOME

    I want to install Oracle9i, but I don't want to overwrite any files used by my Oracle8i instances. Is it as easy as installing it in /oracle/u01/product/920?

    yes.

    It will however affect things like oratab, dbhome etc

    But you can still use each home separately withoout any problems
