    Question RMAN8i Retention Policy

    Hi

I am new to Oracle administration as Oracle is new in our business. One of my first task is to setup RMAN backup/recovery policy and procedures.
I wrote the scripts and the backup/recovery work fine.
RMAN performs the backup and backupsets are written to tapes by Tivoli TSM and TDP Oracle.
My question is now how can I define a retention policy of 30 days with RMAN8i with a script ?
The following option works only with RMAN9i
    CONFIGURE RETENTION POLICY TO RECOVERY WINDOW OF 30 DAY;

    My environment is :
    Oracle8i Enterprise Edition v8.1.7 Release 3
    Windows 2000 Server Advanced Edition
Tivoli Storage Manager 5.1.5 with TDP Oracle

    Thanks in advance

    My condolences

You can't. You'd have to write a script to identify backups older than 30 days and delete it, then put it in Tivoli or OS schedule.

We have the same setup. 8i Oracle, TSM, TDP for Oracle.

Here are my scripts for deleting backups on tape. Nothing fancy, but they work.

Oh.. just noticed you're on Windows. The attached file is a Unix Shell script, but you should get the idea anyway.

    HTH!

    Hi Jodie,
Looks like you forgot to attach the files (Or I don't know where to download them from).
Can you email them to me please : jfaye@danone.com

It will be great if you have somewhere a sample script.

Can you email that to me please at jfaye@danone.com ?

    Thanks in advance

    Jean-Luc -
I've just emailed the scripts.. Not sure why they didn't get posted.
