    Archive process

    Hi

I have aproduction database version 8.1.7.4, when i start the database it is started with 1 archive process. From alert log, it start 2nd and 3rd archive process ie
    ARC0: Completed archiving log# 3 seq# 67397
    ARC0: STARTING ARCH PROCESSES
    ARC1 started with pid=125
    ARC1: Archival started
    Tue Sep 2 12:00:24 2003

when it ARC1 starts to archive log say #67399
ARCO also attempts to start but fails, so on with say 3rd process. Finally ARC1 is completed.
My question is , is this normal behaviour.? Do these extra process started 2, 3 etc shut down itself, which i think is NOT, they are shut down only when database is shut down.

    ARC1: Beginning to archive log# 4 seq# 67399

Thread 1 advanced to log sequence 67401

    You can ignore those messages.
The messages are there when more than one proces tries to archive the same file and one fails but the other archives it successfully.
