    Hi,
You can use the /etc/init.d/dbora or simply call $ORACLE_HOME/bin/dbshut

It reads the oratab file (/var/opt/oracle/oratab) and starts/stops each database entry in the file.

    Cheers.

Which UNIX OS? It is important.

Your best best is to use the oratab and put each database you have in there, then you dbsrart and dbshut from ORACLE_HOME/bin.

And if you want the databases to come up on machine bootup, link it into the run level directories for your specific OS (need root for that)

Check the sample script in 8i Backup & Recovery by Velapuri, it'll give you a good idea even if you are new to UNIX. Carefully research whatever you do before implementing on a production/test/QA database. There are plenty of resources on the web (ie: http://www.orsweb.com/)
